About the event

Discover the Art of Bell Ringing at the Dean Heritage Centre

For over a thousand years, the sound of bells has echoed across the British Isles — calling communities to worship, warning of danger, and marking life’s most important moments.

Our latest exhibition celebrates this rich tradition right here in the Forest of Dean, introducing you to the bells and the dedicated ringers who keep them ringing for weddings, funerals, and services across our local churches.

This special display also honours Jack Long, who this month celebrates his 90th birthday and an incredible 80 years of bell ringing in the Forest.

Bell ringing is a fascinating and challenging art — one that anyone can learn with time and dedication. Local church towers are often looking for new ringers to join them in preserving this cherished national heritage.

Come and explore the world of bell ringing at the Dean Heritage Centre — and perhaps you’ll be inspired to learn the ropes yourself!
