Nature Faces

Key Stage: KS 1/2

 

Aims

To appreciate and understand the shapes, colours, patterns and textures in the natural world through creating images.

To explore, using their observation, imagination, sharing ideas and using descriptive words.

Curriculum Links:

Art: (KS1) Using a range of materials creatively; Using sculpture to develop and share ideas and imagination; Using colour, pattern, texture, shape and form in the development of artworks. (KS2) Improve mastery of art and design techniques including drawing and sculpture.

 

Science: Plants and animals; Everyday materials; Seasonal changes.

 

Workshop Description: After looking at some faces made from leaves, flowers, twigs, etc., walk around the woodlands and gather different natural objects reflecting the textures, colours and shapes they want to use in an image of a face. They can explore the descriptive words, be creative in use of textures and shapes and can consider how different shapes or positioning of the materials on the paper, might create different expressions/moods in the face. The items will be stuck to cardboard/paper using glue and can be taken away at the end of the session or pupils can make more sculptural faces of which photos can be taken.
